Ross Wilson takes gold in the 2012 Slovenian Open

Ross Wilson, the 16 year old GB player, continued his remarkable success in para table tennis over the last year by taking the Gold medal in the Class 8 singles at the Slovenian Open .  Ross beat the world number 2, Emil Andersson ( Sweden ) in the semi-final in a very closely contested match  winnin g 12-10, 12-10, 11-13, 6-11, 13-11.     The final , against the world number 4, Richard Csejtey (Slovakia) also went to the deciding game with Ross winning  11-6, 11-5, 9-11,12-14, 11-8

 

Victoria Bromley took the silver medal in the Ladies Class 11 Singles , finishing 2nd  in the final group of 5 – her first major international singles medal.   Victoria not only registered her  first ever wins against the three French players but beat all three players 3-0.   The Russian,  Anzhelika Kosacheva, took the gold medal  withpout dropping a game to her four competitors. 

 

Three other players reached the semi-finals but lost in the bronze play-off to finish fourth in their respective Class singles     

Rob Davies – Class 1, Scott Robertson – Class 5 and Jane Campbell – Class 3.  

Of the 11 other  GB  players who competed at the event, 9 players reached the Quarter-Final stage.
