GB continue their medal success in Slovakian Open

  At the first two days of competing at the 2012 Slovakian Open, the GB squad took 6 medals In the singles events – an impressive performance considering the Chinese TT squad  were competing at this event.  

 

Rob Davies and Paul Davies, both from Wales, made the final of the Mens Class 1 an all GB affair when they each won their semi-final match.  Rob took the gold medal, beating Paul 3-0 in the final,    Paul thereby gaining one of the two individual silver medals won by GB at this Open.    The other silver medal was won by Jane Campbell, in possibly her best individual success to date.   In the semi-final , she had an impressive win over Alena Kanova ( Slovakia)  10, -8, -3, 8, 5  and lost in the final to Turkey’s Nergis Altinas  3-1.

 

 Three bronze medals were won by the GB squad.  Will Bayley in Mens Cclass 7, Ross Wilson in Mens class 8 and  David Wetherill in the mens Class 6.

 

 Two players reached the quarter-finals of their class events,  Sue Gilroy in the ladies Class 4 and Paul Karabardak in the Mens Class 7.

 

 Gorazd Vecko, the GB Performance manager , and his coaches hope to increase the medal tally as the squad progress through the team events.
